What to Expect

Kinesiology

The first session will take around 1 1/2 hours with any subsequent sessions lasting approximately one hour. Initially, a brief questionnaire is completed, in order to obtain any relevant background medical history or outline of issues with which the client may be seeking support.

At the first session, after explaining and demonstrating the procedure of muscle testing, the kinesiologist will place limbs in different positions and apply a very light manual pressure to test muscle response. Most commonly arm muscles are used as these are least tiring. Testing can be done either seated comfortably or lying on the therapy couch.

If the muscle "unlocks" under the stress of testing, it provides information as to imbalances or blockages within a specific area of the person. Muscle testing, which also incorporates verbal questioning, will indicate the techniques required to restore balance, optimum health and energy.

Balancing techniques can involve gently activating reflex and acupuncture points on the body, specific body movements, nutritional and lifestyle changes. The client's body dictates entirely what the priorities are for balancing and which methods are best for that individual at that time. Every session is individual and unique, just as is every client and their own personal experience of illness or stress.

Kinesiology considers the whole person and the balance between the physical, mental, emotional, nutritional and spiritual. During the session things may arise which might not seem obviously connected to your principle issue, for example, emotions, sleeping patterns, and eating habits.

Kinesiology differs from a number of other holistic therapies in that clients require some time between treatments to process and absorb the work done within the session, and also to implement any changes or suggestions that may have arisen. It is therefore common that there may be several months between sessions, if this is appropriate for that individual. Clients often come to kinesiology with chronic conditions that have not been helped elsewhere. As it treats the whole person holistically, it can really make a difference where other interventions have not succeeded. Ideally it is helpful to have a least three treatments, but that is entirely up to the client.

Reiki

The client lies fully clothed on the treatment table whilst the practitioner places their hands gently on or near various points around the head and body, holding each position for a few minutes at a time. The session lasts for around an hour and the effects of Reiki are cumulative, so a course of treatments can be especially helpful.

The Reiki experience is very individual but it is common to feel extremely relaxed and often people will drift off to sleep. As the Reiki energy flows some clients may feel heat, tingling or other sensations in the body. Tension, pain and negative feelings can be gently released.

After a Kinesiology or Reiki session

You may notice a number of changes during or immediately after the session. Some clients can feel physical sensations within the body; others will feel emotional releases; others may not notice anything particularly significant at the time but feel energised. Most people will notice changes within the first session. It is common to feel a sense of contentment and well-being, particularly after a Reiki treatment.

It is always a good idea to try to rest for a short time after a session where possible as healing requires a lot of energy. Drink plenty of water that day and over the next few days to help flush toxins from the body.

It is important to recognize that we are all individuals and that our individual response to treatment varies. If a client ever has any concerns whatsoever about healing reactions, it is important that they contact the practitioner to discuss their experiences. If appropriate, they are of course free to return for further support.
