About Reiki
What is Reiki?
This Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique is a simple hands-on treatment
that promotes deep relaxation and improved health.
Reiki helps to restore and maintain the essential balance of Ki (life force) in the body.
It is based on the concept that "life force energy" flows through us and is essential for our
wellbeing.
If one's Ki or "life force energy" is low or not in balance, then we are more likely to get
sick or stressed. If it is balanced and flowing strongly, we are more capable of optimum
health, happiness and well-being. Balancing energies can assist with all types of disease,
pain, depression and stress.
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - "Rei", which means "the wisdom and knowledge
of all the Universe" and "Ki", which is "life force energy". Reiki is usually translated as
"spiritually guided energy" or "Universal life force energy."In essence Reiki is very simple
and gentle yet incredibly powerful. It can strengthen the body; soothe and nurture; calm the
mind; support the emotions and help heal the spirit.
Reiki is gentle and non-intrusive and treatments are entirely safe for everyone including
infants, elderly people, and the chronically or seriously ill. It has been effective in
helping virtually every known illness and distress and it also works in conjunction with
all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Reiki is much more than a physical therapy. It is a holistic system for balancing, healing
and harmonising all aspects of the person - body, mind, emotions and spirit - and it can
also encourage personal and spiritual awareness and development.
While Reiki has a spiritual element, no religious or spiritual beliefs of any kind are
involved. It is helpful to have an open attitude towards the experience, though Reiki is
not dependent on belief and will work in any case.

What is a Reiki Treatment Like?
Treatment takes place fully clothed on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner places
their hands on or near the body, providing a channel for the flow of Reiki energy.
Reiki is simply a means for transferring energy. The practitioner is a conductor for
the Ki, which is drawn by the client to exactly where it is needed.
A gentle feeling of warmth and tingling may be felt through the practitioner's hands.
A client may experience pleasant sensations in the body, colours or images in the mind
or drift off to sleep. For many people, Reiki evokes a peaceful, calming sensation that
leaves them deeply relaxed.
Reiki treatments can range from 20 minutes to one and a half hours, depending on your needs,
but a usual treatment lasts around an hour. The practitioner always responds to the
particular situation of the client and works intuitively to treat their specific needs.
The experience is often profoundly relaxing and may also be energizing. The effects are also
cumulative so it can be very beneficial to have regular treatments if this is possible.
Reiki treats the whole person -including body, emotions, mind and spirit -and can offer
many benefits, whatever the challenges the client may be experiencing.
